What is the “Embracing the Future” Campaign? The “Embracing the Future” Campaign began in 2002 with the aggressive goal to raise $5 million to meet the needs of the parish as identified in the Master Plan. To date there has been $4 million pledged in cash and gifts in kind. The Pastoral Center is the first project of the campaign and construction begins in May 2006. It is anticipated that construction will take 12 – 18 months. How will parishioners benefit from this new facility? Once completed, the Pastoral Center will become the main facility for meetings and conferences for the parish. This will free up Enke Hall, which currently serves a multitude of roles. The Pastoral Center will then house the lending library, gift shop, Sunday nursery, and a new teen room. There will now be three large meeting rooms that can be opened to accommodate large gatherings of over 300 people which the parish will be able to use for meetings and group gatherings that do not fit currently into the Education Center. There will also be a kitchen and hospitality area. Enke Hall will then be used by the elementary school for a new music room, latchkey, flexible educational space, additional offices, and storage.
This phase of the facilities plan had
included the addition of a larger Plans for a new gymnasium have been completed. Construction will begin once the Pastoral Center has been completed and funds are collected to pay for the entire project. This is currently estimated at $1.25 – $1.50 million. The new gymnasium will house a regulation high school size court with a new wood floor and bleacher seating for 500 for games, speakers and performances. The new gym will be able to be divided into two practice courts. The current stage will be enlarged and will receive significant updates and improvements. Why has the building project been delayed? The beginning of the construction of the Pastoral Center was delayed due to the decision of Msgr. Hendricks, the Finance and Steering Committees. Saint Brigid of Kildare is one of the newest parishes in the Columbus Diocese and the only elementary school built in the last thirty years in the diocese. The parish, since its inception, has carried debt for both of the buildings, with $2,656,000 currently owed for the Parish Education Center and Church. Since the parish continues to pay this debt at $187,000 per year, it was decided that it was not financially responsible for the parish to take on any additional debt for the new facilities. So, the construction was delayed until the funds were collected to pay for the building. How can I participate in the “Embracing the Future” campaign? If you would like a brick paver for your family or to honor a special date, graduation or sacrament, please contact Sarah Moore in the parish office at (614) 761-3734.
