ST. BRIGID'S ANNUAL RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE will be held on Saturday, September 11, from

8:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the Gym.  Blood supplies are especially low during the summer months so your donation is most important.  Donors are allowed to give blood every 8 weeks, 56 days.  Please help!  The need is great!  If interested, please call the Red Cross to schedule an appointment at 1-800-GIVELIFE (251-1451).  If you are willing to volunteer to work a 2 hour shift during the blooddrive please call Sue Massey at 889-7609.

 

WEEKEND RETREAT FOR MEN  On September 10-12, 2004, Fr. Joseph A. Murphy, SJ, who is an Associate Professor of Moral Theology at the Pontifical College Josephinum, will direct a silent retreat at St. Therese’s Retreat Center.  The theme of the retreat will be “What it Means to be a Christian Man through the Teachings of John Paul II, Theology of the Body.”  For more information contact Jack Dyas at 889-7410.

COMPONENT MINISTRY I FORMATION PROGRAM

Are you currently involved in lay ministry?  Do you wish to become more involved in the parish?  Or perhaps, you are discerning a call to the deaconate?  If so, the Office of Ministry Formation is now accepting applications through September 6 for the 2004 Fall Component I Program.  The dates for the five Saturday sessions are September 11, September 25, October 9, October 23 and November 6.

 

The sessions, topics and speakers include:

 

·         “Morality and Conscience Formation” – James Keating

·         “Social Justice Issues” – Mark Huddy

·         “Leadership, Communication and Conflict Management” – Carolyn Obert and Leslie Young

·         “The Catholic Conference of Ohio” – Timothy Luckhaupt

·         “Rights and Responsibilities of the Laity” and “The Structure and History of Diocese of Columbus” – Msgr. Stephen Moloney

·         “Tour and Departmental Presentations at the Catholic Center” – Department Directors

 

Catechists can receive enrichment units through the Diocese of Columbus Religious Education Department.  School teachers can receive up to 2.2 CEU’s through the Diocesan LPDC.  Component I is also a prerequisite for those men considering application for the diaconate.

FORE – IT’S WHO TIME!!!  The 5th Annual “Wolfhound Open” presented by the St. Brigid of Kildare Athletic Association at Flagstone in Marysville, will be held on Friday, August 27, at 1:00 PM.  Shotgun start – scramble format.  All proceeds go to St. Brigid Athletic Association.  Cost: $125 per person/$500 per foursome (Adults only).  Registration forms can be found on the Kiosk in the Gathering Area.  Register early to insure a position in this great event.

 

CATHOLIC SOCIAL SERVICES’ 9TH ANNUAL GOLF CLASSIC  Join OSU Athletic Director, Andy Geiger and Catholic Social Services for their 9th Annual Golf Classic at The Medallion Club on Monday, September 27.  This fun-filled day will include a day of golf, box lunch, buffet dinner, and silent and live auctions.  All proceeds go to help such vital services CSS offers through our Diocese such as adoption; emergency housing for homeless families; employment readiness and skills training; parenting education and child abuse prevention; senior assistance; youth diversion; individual, group and family counseling; and immigrant and refugee services.  Please contact Ruth Fortkamp at 857-1230 or rfortkamp@colscss.org for more information or to sponsor a foursome.

MIDDLE SCHOOL YOUTH WEEKEND is August 20 – 22 at St. Brigid Parish.  Please try to attend an event or help out at the church table that weekend.  Invite others from the 6th – 8th grades to take part.

 

MAYFAIR ICE CREAM SOCIAL AND TALENT EVENT Sunday, August 22.  Entertainers and servers needed.  (Combined event with St. Brendan’s Parish).

 

DUBLIN CROP WALK PLANNING MEETING will take place on Tuesday, August 24, at 7:00 PM, at Glacier Metro Park (call hotline for location of the meeting).  Any one interested in helping to plan the Sunday, October 10 CROP Walk is welcomed to attend this meeting.

 

SAWMILL LANES BOWLING NIGHT  Money is being collected for the Thursday, August 26 bowling night at Sawmill Lanes.  Cost is $10 for unlimited bowling from 7:00 PM –

9:00 PM and bowling shoes.  Make checks payable to St. Brigid of Kildare and drop off at the Parish Office ASAP.  We have a limit of 30 on the event and anticipate it being sold out.

DIOCESAN CHILDREN’S CHOIR FORMING for children ages 8 – 12.  The choir will begin rehearsals in September at the Cathedral on Tuesdays from 5:00 PM –

WEIGH DOWN WEIGHT CONTROL PROGRAM

You are invited to join a unique program of weight control, to learn once and for all that dieting is not the answer.  In this seminar you will relearn the natural, internal hunger control God created.  Focusing on His will as it relates to food, you can at last enjoy all the wondrous foods that God has made without being enslaved by them.  You will learn to transfer this passion for food to the only one who can truly love you back and give you peace.  Day and evening program offerings:  Wednesday 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM and Wednesday evening 6:30 PM –
