                                              Reflection on Religious Life

My name is Sr. Cecilia Taphorn, and I have been a Sister of the Precious Blood for 44 years. I became acquainted with my religious community in high school where the Precious Blood Sisters were teaching at the time. I couldn’t help but notice that the sisters were very happy. You could tell they loved their vocation. I joined the community because I felt that God was calling me to be a sister. At first I didn’t want to hear the call, but since it kept coming back to me, I asked God to give me the courage to answer the call. I’m so glad I did.

There are many religious orders, and Sisters are involved in a variety of ministries. Presently I am the Pastoral Associate at St. Mary Parish. Before that I served as a teacher, principal, and director of religious education in several parishes.

My ministry is quite varied of which I’ll mention a few of the activities with which I am involved. I coordinate ministries to the sick and elderly, assist divorced men and women with annulments, conduct various liturgical services, and serve on the core team of our neighborhood Network. I serve as staff liaison to Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA), the Moms Organization, and Outreach Ministries.

Everyday for me is a new adventure and no two days are the same. I have always loved variety, and parish life gives me this wonderful opportunity to serve people in so many different capacities. It’s such a privilege to journey with so many people in times of both joy and suffering. I hope that my presence in the lives of parishioners provides the healing and life-giving presence they need.

I trust that many more young women will be called to be sisters and hope that they will have the courage to say “yes.” It’s a wonderful life!
