Policies, Procedures, and Contact Information

Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month except during Advent and Lent. For additional information, please email the Parish Office or call at 614-761-3734. You may be asked to attend a Jordan Conference, a Baptism preparation class.

Eucharist

Children typically begin preparing to receive their First Holy Communion or First Eucharist once they reach the Second Grade. For more information, please email the Parish Office or call at 614-761-3734, email the Elementary School or call at 614-718-5825, or email the Religious Education Department or call at 614-761-1176 as best fits your children’s life situation.

Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is usually received when one approaches or enters his or her young teenage years. At St. Brigid of Kildare, the young people are prepared to receive Confirmation during the Eighth Grade. Please email the Parish Office or call at 614-761-3734, email the Elementary School or call at 614-718-5825, or email the Religious Education Department or call at 614-761-1176 as best fits your children’s life situation.  As part of Confirmation preparation, students in grades 7-8work to complete 25 hours of approved service activities prior to their Confirmation in the spring of their 8th grade year.  7th and 8th gradersare required to fill out this form for all confirmation service hours and turn completed forms into the Religious Education Office.

Penance and Reconciliation

The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation (aka the Sacrament of Confession) is offered every Saturday afternoon from 4:00pm to 4:30pm (or up to the point at which the priest needs to prepare for the 5:00pm Sunday Vigil Mass). A priest will also provide the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation by appointment or as requested by the homebound, the sick, and the dying at their convenience.

The “Rite for Reconciliation of Several Penitents with Individual Confession and Absolution” (aka Penance Services) are offered seasonally (i.e. during Advent and Lent). On other occasions each year, the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation is specially available to 2nd Graders (“First Confession”), 4th Graders, and 8th Graders preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Of course, it is hoped that the children’s families will also present themselves for Confession on these occasions.

These are important moments of grace in the spiritual life of St. Brigid of Kildare Parish. Please call the Parish Office at 614-761-3734 and ask for either Msgr. Hendricks or Fr. Summers for all emergencies and special needs.

Anointing of the Sick

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick may be received by any Catholic who is facing serious illness, is preparing for surgery, or is elderly. The priests of the Parish are available to administer the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, as necessary, day or night. Both priests are happy to come to people whether they are in a hospital, nursing home, or confined to home. Please call the Parish Office at 614-718-5825 during business hours Monday through Friday. The Rectory emergency telephone number is 614-717-0706 during the evening, night, and weekends; or Sr. Patricia McMahon, OSF at St. Brendan at 614-876-1272.

Marriage

Before a man and a woman consent to the Sacrament of Marriage the couple is required to participate in a marriage preparation program and to follow the Parish Wedding Guidelines. It is not unusual for particular circumstances or individual needs to necessitate a relatively extensive period of time for preparation, so couples are urged to schedule a first meeting with a priest or deacon well in advance of any planned wedding date. Please call the Parish Office at 614-761-3734 for additional information.

Holy Orders

Before a man is admitted to the Sacrament of Holy Orders as a priest and/or deacon he is required to pursue graduate academic work. Please call the Parish Office at 614-761-3734 to talk with any of the priests or deacons of the Parish about the Permanent Diaconate, and call the priests of the Parish to talk about the priesthood. Men interested in becoming priests of the Columbus Diocese will also need to contact Fr. Paul Noble, Vocations Director for the Diocese of Columbus, at the Diocesan Vocations Office at 614-221-5565.

Rite of Christian Initiation Program (RCIA)

Adults seeking sacramental communion with the Roman Catholic Church will, routinely in most cases, enter the Church through RCIA. It requires attendance at catechetical evenings for upward of six-months or more. For additional information, please email the Parish Office or call at 614-761-3734.
